LINE AND POLE
DESIGN
We are pleased to help our clients in overhead line and even
single pole/tower design whenever needed, utilising the experience
gained by IVO Power Engineering engineering of transmission
and distribution networks. Their experience has been gathered
from projects in more than 60 countries in Europe, Africa, Asia
and the Middle East.
WOODEN POLES vs. CONCRETE AND STEEL POLES
Most countries in Western Europe, North America, the Middle
East and Africa use wooden poles for overhead power and telecommunication
lines. The main reason is the economy both in the short and
in the long term.
When comparing the total costs, which include material, transport,
erection and maintenance, with a sufficient service life, the
costs of wooden poles have proved to equal 50- 75% of those
of concrete or steel structures. Exceptions to this are cases
in which there is a demand for a very high clearance or a very
long span with heavy loads.
If there is a need to remove an erected line later for some
reason, wooden poles are easy to lift, transport and reinstall,
as they are lighter and more shock-resistant than concrete poles
and need no foundations, either.
